How the tractor noise came to be:

Many years ago when the idea of this book was conceived, I called Steve Slaton.  He is a D.J. at a classic rock station in Seattle, WA. (He now works at 95.7 KJR)  I want to give thanks to Steve and all the listeners for sharing their examples of tractor sounds.

The following is a transcript from live radio responses:

RRRAAGWR
GRRRA GRRRRR
THOWK
CHUG CHUG
BRBRBRBR
Laboring

“10 popcorn poppers, popping popcorn with a microphone hocked-up to a loud speaker.” The caller said.
“How do you spell that?” Slaton asked.
The caller responded, “How do you spell what?”
“If you’re going to put it in print.  That was her problem.  She wanted to know how to put the noise of a tractor into print.”
“Ya,” the caller said.
“Ah huh,”
“So I just, I just explained it.”
Slaton’s ending comment, “Okay, thank you mister sound effects.”
