One more question.

I really thought my book was done to it's best on my part, but doing the word search for repetitive words, passive voice, and ing endings I see some. (not to much)

Should I make lots of changes in my book, or just have faith that someone will like it, know there are changes to be made and their editor will do it?

Thank you in advance.

  1. I think writers can get too nit picky about their work. I would suggest letting it go. I think a writer can over-edit, and I think it's time to let it go.

  2. I think you want things to be as right as they can be before the book reaches a publisher or editor or whoever will polish it up before it gets into the public hand. I find that it can help a lot to read what I've written out loud to see if anything reads awkwardly. The spoken reading can reveal a lot of mistakes we miss in the cursory silent read through.. Have you had the book read through by someone else (Beta readers, friends, relatives) who would objectively read and give solid feed back?

The product you send on to the next step toward publication should be as polished as it can be so that your professionalism will be evident.

  3. It's important to have a well-edited book. I'm a professional book reviewer and I hear reviewers refusing to read badly edited books or complaining about it in the review. I had to have a second edition of my own book published due to errors --not many and not bad, but now I have a book nearly error free--we never get them all, but we should try. Many readers are turned off by porly edited books full of mistakes.

  5. I think it is like anything you do. Are you happy with someone else coming along behind you and seeing your work? If you are happy with it then you have done your job well .. and you need to move on. Only you can answer the question as to if you are happy with your work.
